Thanks for reading Fran Magazine, a biweekly pop culture blog by Fran Hoepfner (me). This issue is for all subscribers, paid and not, as well as general audiences. Paid subscriptions get you more access to paywalled and archived posts, as well as my wholehearted gratitude.
Summer’s just beginning
I’ve been in the beautiful Hudson Valley this past weekend, enjoying outside and inside and everything but computer. The school year starts up on Tuesday and I’m juggling a handful of deadlines, so everything got a little hectic and in turn, the regular Sunday Dispatch gets kicked to Labor Day.
In lieu of that, I wanted to send out an informal call for questions or topics of conversations, as I did last fall. You can send these in form of email response or just leave them in the comments sections. Books, movies, TV (I’ll try), music, etiquette, tech, habits, whatever. I’ll respond in future issues at my own discernment, but I got to almost everything last year so don’t be shy!
Hi Fran, if you ever need a one-off gimmick post - would love a Grub Street diet version of how you consume the movies/shows/music/games etc in a week. I struggle to keep up with my three serialized shows and yet your weekly lists contain a handful of MOVIES instead. Looking for the inspiration and/or mechanics behind how you do it.
idea #2: the rise of letterboxd & culture of movie reviews. is it helping us? do we have too much access to other people's opinions now? are those opinions informing our own no matter how hard we try to have our own thoughts? perhaps a brief breakdown of key differences between rating systems (imdb, rotten tomatoes, etc) how to find worth while films while avoiding any kind of spoilers for anything at all ever.. idk
