New dunkey videos are appointment viewing at House Welch-Larson. I really like the way he constructs arguments in video-essay form, especially when he’s being funny and mean simultaneously.
dunkey's year end reviews pretty much determine which games i play. just "beat" animal well yesterday and now look forward to exploring it even more. so happy his first game as a producer is such a hit.
YES! The year end lists of Dunkey, Jacob Geller and Mark Brown from GMTK are where I source basically every video game I play, with rare exceptions coming from JGC and the "historically accurate" tag on steam. I'm about halfway thru Animal Well right now, which is to say, from everything i've seen/read, barely an eighth of the way through everything it has to offer.
omg wow! I'm very impressed. I don't think the game will take too long for me to beat but I am trying to pace it out as best I can... I love these animals!
i am so excited about animal well it is physically hurting me that I can't play it cause im going on vacation. I don't want to explore the real world, I want to explore a spooky little digital well!!! >:(
the best info to get out of the NYT piece on Dunkey is their suggestion that there had to be more animals in the well, and honey, there's a lot!!!! (this is sort of me with early access Hades II rn... but I am being so brave)
No comment on video games or “Tree”. Thank you for reminding me to read the Malcolm book ....
I don’t know if I told you about the two-part James Kaplan biography of Sinatra I’ve been plugging away at but I’m a quarter of the way through the second volume (the Rat Pack era starting up) and I’m ready to call it fully great. Kaplan has a real expertise and passion for the music, and his appreciation for Sinatra and his collaborators’ genius rounds out the showbiz gossip (which is also extremely well-sourced and tries to reconcile many competing legends).
one of my former coworkers read the Kaplan bio at the time of release and would basically show up to the weekly editorial meeting with a recap of what had happened... extremely entertaining and a good enough endorsement at the time that I'd otherwise let slip out of my mind

I only know Dunkey from when who weekly discussed a poll for “most famous Wisconsin celebrity” and he was beating Laura ingalls wilder
he was right to win it
