-That may not be the A Star is Born font but is it the Roma font?
-I think if the strike ends in time for someone to ask Bradley Cooper about the nose he should contort himself into explaining how it is the opposite of what he did when he played The Elephant Man. The prosthetic noise actually signifies how normal Maestro looked.
I suspect he's gonna have to go on the record about it whether he's doing active press or not. By the time that happens, he is going to have so finely tuned an answer it will be impossible to argue with! & yes, the Roma font is definitely closer... I need the font expert I live with to weigh in on this...
It is likely a custom typeface, as many films of this level of budget/prestige are. Like any film that deals with art before the 1970s, it is inspired by the art deco typography that was popular in the golden and silver ages of Hollywood. Roma’s typeface is likely based on the iconic KABEL typeface from the 1920s, whereas Maestro’s font is opting to pay homage to the popular style of the 30s and 40s known as a “fat face serif” :) hope this helps
What a true ripper of a review. Earned a sub out of me!
Also, first I've seen this Bernstein/West Side Story doc! Reminds me of the Pennebaker Company doc/feature. Excellently-dressed talented-as-hell performers smoking their brains out late into the night.
that star is born trailer gets me every time...need to rewatch that movie before maestro, i haven’t seen it since theaters and it’s quite possibly the most utterly engrossing thing i’ve seen in my life
Feeling simultaneously called-out AND seen by this excellent contribution to the eternal canon of “bisexual people being pithy about bisexuality.”😌 Thank you, Fran.😜
Fran have you read Mary Rodgers' Memoir Shy? I'm halfway through and there's a nice chapter about her helping get Maestro's Young People's TV Concerts on their feet.
omg no! I would love to read about those -- they're sort of the most unremarked upon aspect to the Bernstein books (two) I've read, which is crazy because I think they are such a remarkable feat of children's television, on par with Sesame Street/Mr. Rogers, etc.
Cold War (2018) also 4:3!
yes and Ida!!! Which I just missed at Metrograph RIP </3
I fully forgot about the Macklemore thing.........
me too and the link made me cackle at work
it lives rent-free with me forever

arms around the women made me tear up tbh
me too i truly believe he loves lady gaga and felicia bernstein
imagine if they got adrian brody to be maestro lol
he’s the only good part of Blonde, which for some reason this trailer is giving a lot
but he can only play so many maestros i guess
I think he lacks the warmth but it would have been interesting to see!!
what if maestro has many maestros like barbie

that second black and white nose pic really makes him look like michael imperioli to me
omg imagine..
I would like Bradley Cooper to weigh in on bat mitzvah nose jobs
