I can't wait for the "Maestro says something insane to a baby" moment

Enjoyed this review the first time, but it was even more insightful and illuminating now that I’ve seen all that is 2023’s MAESTRO. Best thing I can say is that it helped the movie gel in my mind and made me love it even more!

The baby thing is truly insane, but the real crazy-in-a-(probably)-positive-way thing for me involved a certain Charlie Brown character. Only Cooper!

Having idolized Bernstein most of my life, I too am looking forward to this movie.

On the subject of his letters (the "big book" of which I am in the middle of), I hope you've read "Dearest Lenny," by Mari Yoshihara. She's dug up two of Bernstein's long-time correspondents (one of them a sometime lover) and done a fabulous job of describing their relationship with the Maestro.

Fran writes like one of those smiley-face pancakes from ihop or whatever. Dense yet sweet; goofy yet nourishing; and unabashedly itself because who would want to be beige when you could have cherries for EYES? The cinema cherry eyes see all. And they write some heart wrenching and sincere stuff, goddammit🤣🥹

This piece was so funny before I even read it because it arrived at 9am... you did not disappoint though and I'm glad Maestro didn't either

Feel like we are in an interesting era of biopic-y movies made not just with the permission of the subject’s estate but with their active help in promoting (thinking of Elvis and bohemian rhapsody), which in some ways is good because ignoring their input completely can go so awry, but in other ways makes for worse art. Haven’t seen Maestro yet so don’t know that it applies but this got me thinking!

ya I think there's no way not to incorporate that into the art itself at this point... but I don't think it's ever made any of the promo for these movies boring.... !
