Dang Fran, the "respectively scolding and slipperily-self-determined" line was bone-deep: "Oppenheimer" is twitter and "Tenet" is real life. Boy-howdy, you're onto something there.

Tenet > Oppenheimer is such a good litmus test for TASTE

Carrie Mulligan deserves an Oscar for those shoulders.

Also I always chuckle when I remember that Aaron Taylor-Johnson shows up in Tenet like “Oi mista, you me dad?”

Bizarre performance... kinda genius! He's doing Tom Hardy and I'm not complaining!

i don’t think that brad ever blows it i just think he is always either behind or ahead of the times which he would never realize because of the insanity needed for the movies to work #maestrothoughts

I think I might watch Tenet soonish… I'm kind of a Nolan hater I must admit but I love time loop / time travel stories and also I respect how well Nolan puts together pretty complicated plots. I was thinking this before I saw your post but now I am doubly thinking it!

I have watched it so many times now and feel so differently each time. It's not like my brain is unlocking a puzzle so much as I am just experiencing entirely different emotions each time. A dense (in both ways) text!

I also generally hate Nolan, but I love Tenet. It’s the first and only big budget, high adrenaline vibes movie— a tone poem where the tone is “fuck yes dude!”

It has four of the best action sequences ever committed to film and 3/4 of the soundtrack would fit on a “beast mode” gym playlist. It’s the closest we’ve ever gotten to a Kojima script put to film! Watch it! It’s stupid! It’s great!

I LOVE TENET. I even made a “rerelease Tenet” friendship bracelet while hanging out with my friend and her nieces (it’s red and blue of course). We have the 4K Blu-ray and insisted on playing it on mute in the background of our housewarming party. Going to see it in 70mm tonight. We live in a twilight world! If you can’t stop thinking in linear terms don’t get on the chopper!!!

Also thank you for prank war gone too far. Perfect.

omg I need a rerelease Tenet bracelet... having it on in the background of a party feels dangerous in terms of everyone at the party stopping to watch Tenet but there are way worse parties!

Yes, Tenet at party is feature, not bug! Also, I forgot to mention a crucial design element of the bracelet: the word "rerelease" is backward because that word had its entropy reversed.

But of course!!!!

Michael Caine has so much peanut butter on the roof of his mouth in Tenet that I'm not unconvinced his audio isn't AI-generated and sent back in time tenet-style

“Prank war gone too far” haha I was so lukewarm on this movie when it came out on home media but have been wanting to revisit and given how much I initially like Oppenheimer but have since soured on it I have a feeling the inverse would be true for tenet given the seeds it holds for the former as you mention. Anyway, lovely read as always Fran - hope I can get my hands on tenet to reevaluate soon!

I love Tenet for many reasons, but number one is because there is a character who says, when explaining the backwards time travel, something like ‘don’t think too hard about this.’ 😂

Can’t wait to see it in 70mm tonight. I once bought what I thought were 10 10mg gummies that turned out to be a single 100mg fudge thing. I’ve been taking bites of it like an Easter bunny, excited to finish it off with some time fuckery. IMO all Tenet fans should read this Defector essay on it: https://defector.com/i-cant-stop-watching-tenet-and-i-finally-know-why

I just ran to the AMC app to see if I could grab tickets to Tenet but alas, I live in NJ. I have seen Tenet just once. Rented in 2020 and watched with my parents. I got choked up one time talking to a friend about this one scene in Tenet and how it reminds me of T*ylor Sw*ft’s songwriting. She’s not just going back in time. She’s not just going backwards. She didn’t just get emotionally shot in the torso. She’s looking at that moment from every conceivable angle. The bullet didn’t just get removed from her body via “turning back time”. The bullet went through her, shattered, then the shattered pieces got pulled back in and out through her decimated body. Gruesome, but effective. And that’s what heartbreak and the inability to let things go, feels like at times.

I never considered myself a Nolan bro because i dont like batmen

But i adore Interstellar, Tenet and Oppenheimer. I guess i am? Nolan said the reason for rerelease is to support Dune 2. Cant wait for you to meet my new BF Feyd
