I think you should totally abuse your journalist privileges! If I were the makeup artist I'd be tickled. Alternately you could do the thing I did one of the times I wanted to "learn about makeup" and go to a makeup counter someplace and show them the picture.…

seconding abusing your journalist privileges…also if you’re looking for options, you might have luck in a more unconventional brand like about face and their matte fluid eye paint which has a bunch of “weird” colors and a good formula. you could always calm it down and buff it out with a more neutral color

One of my favorite things to do is search around for make up details from movies. I think the last time I was looking for ScarJo’s peachy lipstick color in Asteroid City. It was modeled after an actual 1950s shade and is no longer available. A lot of times when I want to replicate a look from a movie, it wouldn’t look good on me, I’m just wishing I looked like that actress. With that being said, this blue eye shadow would look incredible on you! Blue eye shadow is so special. I always think of Jamie Lee Curtis in My girl telling Anna Chlumsky “You can never wear too much blue eye shadow.”

I’m always here for curly girl recs. My life is one curly hair product/method/alchemy to the next. My stylist also used kevin murphy but then she and I broke up so I lost faith. Have been using Jessie Curl for a bit but can never remember which one I like - soft curl? pillow curl? an endless journey

for sure! and I recently did the Big Chop for the first time so lots of experimenting. I also heard once and maybe this is apocryphal that your hair “get used” to a product after a while so then you have to like, shock it with a new product? But that sounds fake lol….But then again??

I was using a jessie curl thing for a while too but then swapped it out.... I am so curly product agnostic, especially bc- not sure if you are experiencing this- my curl / hair texture is changing as I age (awesome). These days I can sometimes just get away with the KM leave-in conditioner. with my hair the length it is rn I never do gel anymore even tho it was a staple for years!!!

Personally love to see a routine like this because it’s similar to mine! So I vote to keep this going. I am personally loving my Aquis hair towel (RIP because they got discontinued) which I swear by for frizz and the Crown Affair air dry mousse, which is great for summer frizz and curly/wavy styling.

I just got back from Copenhagen and I have never seen so many hair clips in my life. Currently obsessed with the flat ones so that I can wear them when I lay down and read still - I like the Teleties and Kitsch ones.

Putting out a call for Fran Mag readers to tell me what dry shampoo to buy. I used to use the Verb powder and loved it but they changed the packaging. Interested in the new Ouai scent but pained by the price.

I really need some flat hair clips for when I'm in a car/plane/lying down. I love my Kitsch hair towel!!!

I've never had any success with dry shampoos but please keep me informed if you find a good one for curly hair...

I have an appointment with a derm next month for the first time in many years and I'm excited! my resolution for the back half of this year is to expand my routine beyond cleanser and moisturizer with SPF into retinol and beyond.
